Land Clearing and Excavation for Patriot Products Near Camp Atterbury

A Large-Scale Clearing Project with a Complex History

When Patriot Products LLC purchased approximately 92 acres of land near Camp Atterbury, they reached out to McGee Outdoor Solutions to clear and prepare the property for its next chapter. The site, located at Hospital Road and Schoolhouse Road, was originally part of Camp Atterbury, later transferred to the U.S. Department of Labor, and most recently sold at public auction after being declared excess federal property.

Patriot Products, a Franklin-based provider for the U.S. Department of War, is developing the land into a specialized tactical training facility for military personnel, law enforcement, and first responders. Before any development could begin, the land needed professional excavation, clearing, and hazard identification across a mix of buildings, structures, and heavily forested areas.

That is where McGee Outdoor Solutions stepped in.

Understanding the Scope: 92 Acres Purchased, 65 Acres Cleared

The property contained nine unused buildings, thick underbrush around the structures, and approximately 26 acres of untouched forest. In total, 65 acres required full-scale clearing to create access, restore visibility, and prepare safe working zones for the facility’s future phases.

Before equipment ever touched the ground, the McGee team reviewed historical blueprints of the site. This land has decades of layers beneath it. Old underground tunnels, functioning storm cellars, concrete risers, and large cast-iron storm grates were all possible hazards that needed to be identified and managed.

Our team approached the project strategically and from the inside out:

Within the first one to two weeks, the impact was visible. What had once been an overgrown, inaccessible landscape began opening up.

Clearing, Safety, and Excavation: How the Work Took Shape

Our operators worked methodically through the property, removing years of overgrowth while uncovering and securing critical hazards. Several storm cellars, large concrete risers, and three-foot cast iron grates were hidden in the vegetation. These features required careful management to protect the site, equipment, and future crew members.

As the clearing progressed, we created:

Every pass of the equipment brought the long-term vision closer. By the time clearing wrapped up, Patriot Products had a workable canvas for the first phase of their tactical facility development.

A Property Ready for Its Next Chapter

This project is the beginning of a major transformation. Once fully developed, Patriot Products plans to include:

Clearing the land was the first and most critical step in making this possible.

McGee Outdoor Solutions is proud to have contributed to the preparation of a facility that will support military personnel, first responders, and law enforcement professionals.
